Thanksgiving

People celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of every November. This year it will be the 22nd of November. That means it is in two days!

The first Thanksgiving was in 1621 although this wasn't the start of the every-year celebration. The start of the every-year celebration was in 1863.

Who were the Pilgrims?
The Pilgrims were people that were originally members of the English Church. They were being harassed, annoyed, and even imprisoned! Just because they had different religious beliefs! This means that they weren't allowed (by law) to have different religious thoughts than the people that were in control. They were tired of getting harassed and everything else too.

They moved to Holland. Holland was better but the Pilgrims still weren't as free as they wanted to be.

They decided that they would move to America. The Pilgrims were finally free.

One year, the Pilgrims and the Native Americans got together to have a big feast. The Pilgrims brought the food that they raised the past year, and the Native Americans brought theirs. They shared and ate the food together. They danced, sang, and told everyone what and who they were thankful for. They called this Thanksgiving. The friendship between the Native Americans and the Pilgrims only lasted a generation.

We are still having this holiday and are still doing the same things to celebrate.

Have a great Thanksgiving everybody!

Here is a drawing that I drew:
