Longitude measures in degrees West or East and runs the same way the Prime Meridian runs, North to South. The Prime Meridian is located in England in a town called Greenwich! The reason it is located there is because that is the first place they mapped longitude and latitude!
Longitude:
Something that will help you understand this is a ruler!
Okay so put your ruler facing you... The zero inch on the left side and the 12 inch on the right. Imagine that each inch was 10 degrees. So 1 inch is 10 degrees, 2 inches is 20 degrees, 3 inches is 30 degrees and so on. Imagine where the 0 inches is there is an imaginary line straight up and down.
This line on the globe would be called the Prime Meridian!
So what Latitude would be doing is measuring on a globe or map of earth where exactly something was in degrees! Pretty handy!!!
Latitude would measure West or East but the imaginary lines would run North down to South.
Latitude
Latitude would be doing the same thing just measuring North or South, and the imaginary lines would run West to East!
